Responsibilities include reviewing and analyzing medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes for accurate billing; preparing and submitting claims via EMR/EHR systems; following up on unpaid or denied claims through collection efforts and appeals; verifying patient insurance coverage; maintaining detailed billing records; collaborating with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and coding issues; and staying current with industry regulations and coding standards.
Key skills required are extensive knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, DRG classifications, medical terminology and records management, experience with medical billing processes and insurance claims, attention to detail, communication skills for provider collaboration, medical collections strategies, and familiarity with healthcare reimbursement regulations.
- Extensive knowledge of medical coding including ICD-10, CPT, DRG classifications, and ICD-9 if applicable
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards
- Proven experience with EMR/EHR systems and insurance claim submission
