Medical Billing & Receivables Specialist

We are committed to supporting at risk children and families providing them with tools and resources to help prevent child abuse, neglect, and abandonment. We provide Christ-centered care and support to children and families in need through 14 programs across Missouri, Texas, and Louisiana.

This role requires managing the full revenue cycle, including complex medical billing and coding using ICD-10/CPT codes, claim denial appeals, and auditing records for accuracy and compliance. The candidate must be proficient with electronic billing systems and Microsoft Excel and Word and comfortable working in a high-volume, metric-driven environment.

Key responsibilities include confirming insurance eligibility and patient copay/deductible, assigning detailed ICD-10/CPT codes, submitting clean claims and managing appeals for denials or underpayments, conducting internal audits for compliance, identifying denial trends for billing accuracy improvement, and acting as a liaison among finance, program departments, payers, and clients.

Work is performed primarily in an office setting in Austin, Texas, with some travel to agency locations. Overtime may be required occasionally to meet deadlines.

The role reports to the Director of Accounting.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; vocational and/or some college preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in medical billing and coding
  • Active certification from AAPC or AHIMA (e.g. CPC, CCS) preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of medical billing software and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
  • Strong knowledge of Medicaid billing and mental and behavioral health coding preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to interpret medical documentation accurately
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Must pass child abuse/neglect, criminal, sexual offender, childcare/elder care disqualification screenings, fingerprinting, drug screen, and physical exam with no communicable disease evidence
