The Medical Billing (AR) Specialist role is vital in the revenue cycle process, ensuring accurate and timely submission of medical claims, working denials, and supporting financial health. The specialist collaborates closely with clinical and administrative teams to ensure billing accuracy and compliance with payer requirements.
Responsibilities include preparing and submitting medical claims electronically or on paper, reviewing patient accounts for accuracy and compliance, troubleshooting claim rejections and denials, submitting corrected claims and appeals, analyzing reimbursement audits, processing correspondence, posting payments and adjustments, collaborating with coding and other departments, communicating with insurers and patients, providing customer service, ensuring HIPAA compliance, maintaining updated knowledge of billing regulations, supporting audits, and participating in process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications require a high school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or certification in medical billing/coding is preferred. Candidates should have 2+ years medical billing experience in healthcare, preferably ophthalmology or specialty care; strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding; experience with EHR and billing software (e.g., NextGen, Nextech, Trizetto); familiarity with payer portals including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurers; excellent organizational and communication skills; attention to detail; and ability to work independently.
