We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Insurance Billing and Coding Specialist Contractor to join our healthcare administration team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of medical billing, coding procedures, and insurance claim processes. This role is essential in ensuring accurate and timely reimbursement for healthcare services by managing the entire billing cycle, including coding, documentation, and collections. The contractor will work independently to support our operational efficiency while maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Duties:
- Review medical records and documentation to accurately assign Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) codes, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, and International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9 and ICD-10) codes.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring all billing information is precise and complete.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and authorization requirements prior to service delivery to facilitate smooth reimbursement processes.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, including appeals when necessary.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and evolving insurance policies to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies that may impact billing accuracy.
- Generate detailed reports on billing activities, outstanding accounts receivable, and collection efforts for management review.
- Stay current with updates in ICD coding standards, CPT coding updates, DRG classifications, and relevant healthcare regulations.
Experience:
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting, preferably with contractor or remote work experience.
- Strong proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classifications used in hospital billing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical records management and familiarity with EMR/EHR systems.
- Experience handling medical collections and resolving claim denials efficiently.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology and clinical documentation practices.
- Prior work in a fast-paced environment requiring meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance standards such as HIPAA is highly desirable.
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
