Medical Biller - On site

A busy family medicine practice in Salinas is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Medical Biller to join our team.

Responsibilities:

• Post and manage patient payments
• Submit electronic and paper claims accurately and in a timely manner
• Verify patient insurance eligibility (prior to and same-day visits)
• Follow up on accounts receivable, including denied or unpaid claims
• Prepare and send patient statements and collection letters
• Communicate with patients regarding account balances, payment plans, and billing inquiries (phone and in-person)
• Ensure accurate entry of patient demographics, insurance information, diagnosis, CPT codes, and modifiers
• Write and submit appeals for denied or underpaid claims
• Maintain detailed account notes and follow-up actions
• Assist with front office tasks as needed

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1 year experience in medical billing
• Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and modifiers
• Experience with insurance verification and claims processing
• Understanding of insurance guidelines, eligibility, and reimbursement
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to follow instructions, prioritize workload, and complete tasks as assigned
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
• Experience with Athena (athenahealth) is a plus
• Typing speed of 35–40 WPM preferred
