The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our medical billing and accounts functions, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of claims, handling accounts receivable and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. This position involves communicating and working closely with the Billing Manager, patients, insurance companies and other staff members to ensure charges are coded and billed correctly and that outstanding accounts are resolved.
Billing Responsibilities:
- Review patient encounters in preparation of medical claims for accuracy
- Ensure that charges, imported from EHR software, are coded correctly and billing rules are followed
- Key charges into billing software based on patient's visit, procedures and services provided
- Scrub, correct if needed, and submit clean claims to insurance companies
- Resolve and correct any rejections from the clearinghouse for prompt resubmission
Accounts Receivable Responsibilities:
- Claim Follow-Up: review unpaid or denied claims from insurances and follow-up promptly until resolved
- Denial Management: analyze claim denials, correct any errors, gather requested information and submit appeals or reconsiderations
- Correspondence: analyze Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) for next steps to resolve claims
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in healthcare billing required
- Basic knowledge of medical billing processes, coding and reimbursement systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively within a team
- Self-motivated / self-starter
- Ability to research denial trends and provide office feedback
- Experience in Allscripts PM/EHR preferred
