Cullman Internal Medicine is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join our team!
The Billing Specialist is responsible for managing key components of the revenue cycle, including charge entry, payment posting, and accounts receivable (AR) follow-up, alongside standard billing functions. This role ensures timely and accurate claim submission, payment reconciliation, and resolution of outstanding balances in compliance with payer guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include accurate charge entry for professional services based on provider documentation and coding guidelines, posting insurance and patient payments with adjustments and denials, reconciling daily deposits, conducting AR follow-up on outstanding claims, reviewing and correcting claim rejections and denials while identifying root causes and trends, submitting corrected claims and appeals with proper documentation, verifying patient insurance information and eligibility to support billing accuracy, managing aging reports and prioritizing accounts, communicating effectively with payers, patients, and staff regarding billing issues, maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations including HIPAA and Alabama Medicaid policies, assisting with month-end closing processes and reporting, and collaborating with coding and clinical staff to resolve discrepancies in documentation or billing.
This position is fully on-site in Cullman, Alabama, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or certificate in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of medical billing experience including charge entry, payment posting, and AR follow-up preferred.
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding principles.
Familiarity with Medicare, Alabama Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines.
Experience with EMR/PM systems such as eClinicalWorks, SystemedX, or similar.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
