The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for accurately processing insurance explanation of benefits (EOBs), investigating denials, communicating with insurance companies, claims scrubbers, sites, and customer service regarding claims, re-billing claims, and working aging and ERA reports in a timely manner.
Essential job duties include investigating claims denials, refund requests, and other billing issues; re-billing and reprocessing claims correctly; researching coding issues using resources such as Supercoder, NCCI, CPT, and payer websites; reviewing assigned payer insurance updates quarterly; utilizing the practice management system and electronic medical records (including patient notes, claim data, and tasks); communicating with coordinators regarding billing errors or denials; and managing email and task acknowledgment daily.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Completion of a Medical Coding and Billing Program (preferred)
- Medical Coding Certification optional (CPC-A or CPC)
- Basic knowledge and understanding of patient confidentiality
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong computer skills
- Knowledge of billing terminology (ICD and CPT codes)
- Ability to type using appropriate grammar and spelling
- Excellent phone etiquette and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take direction from coordinator/manager
- Strong organizational and time management skills
