Billing Specialist - Follow-Up (No-Fault & Workers Comp)

Dent Neurologic Institute is committed to excellence with a culture focused on respect, quality, productivity, and well-being. This full-time position, Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, is based in Amherst, NY.

The role involves initiating and coordinating follow-up to review and collect on all submitted medical claims, including working on denial processes, insurance appeals, Medicaid claims, and patient billing inquiries. Key duties include documenting claim status, using technology to research claims, understanding insurance denial reasons, filing appeals, managing claim aging buckets, processing medical expense reports, handling insurance correspondence, and assisting patients with billing questions.

Candidates should have experience with medical billing processes, knowledge of insurance plans, claim submission, CPT, ICD-9/10 coding, authorizations, and medical terminology. Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills are required. A high school diploma with at least 2 years of medical billing experience is required; an associate degree with 1 year experience is preferred.

Strict confidentiality, adherence to Dent policies, and the ability to work efficiently under deadlines are essential. The environment is a typical office setting with minimal physical effort.

Compensation is hourly ($17 - $22/hour) based on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision plans, 401(k), life insurance, wellness programs, paid time off, and free onsite parking.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Understanding of different insurance plans, contracts, and policies
  • Ability to interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), copays, coinsurance, deductibles, and retractions
  • Knowledge of claims management, charge entry, payment posting, and patient financial clearance
  • Experience with insurance verification, referrals, and pre-authorizations
  • Knowledge of electronic claim submissions
  • Familiarity with patient check-in/check-out processes
  • Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, HCPCS codes, and Modifiers
  • Previous experience in outpatient medical practice
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, internet browsers)
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under deadlines
  • High school diploma with minimum 2 years of medical billing experience; Associate degree with 1 year experience preferred
