Billing Specialist

Responsible for correctly processing healthcare claims to obtain reimbursement from insurance companies and government healthcare programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.

High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in a related field preferred.

1-2 years of medical billing and follow-up experience desired.

Certification such as CPC and/or CPB or similar highly desired but not required.

Experience with eClinicalWorks preferred.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Advanced and current working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes as well as insurance payer coding and reimbursement guidelines.

Ability to work in a high pressure environment with strong active listening skills, attention to detail, decision-making skills, and excellent customer service skills.

Able to collaborate with clinical, non-clinical staff, providers, and patients maintaining a non-judgmental attitude.

Handles inquiries from patients and insurance companies courteously and cooperatively, returns phone calls within 24 hours.

Manages accuracy of claims, applies approved adjustments, scrubs claims for errors, files electronic and hard copy claims daily.

Processes correspondence related to accounts to secure payment, including rejections, denials, or rebills within required timeframes.

Maintains daily account and follow-up worklists, adheres to departmental and organizational guidelines.

Attends departmental and organizational meetings and continuing education opportunities.

Physical requirements include ability to lift 30 pounds, normal vision and hearing, and manual dexterity for data entry and related tasks.

Requirements & Qualifications

Must have a High School Diploma or GED; Associate's degree preferred.

1-2 years experience in medical billing and follow-up.

Preferred certifications: CPC, CPB or similar.

Experience with eClinicalWorks preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Advanced knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS codes, and insurance reimbursement guidelines.

Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Comfortable taking direction from leadership.
