The Ambulance Billing Specialist is responsible for accurate and timely processing of insurance claims within the healthcare and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) environment. Duties include preparing, reviewing, and submitting insurance claims in compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations; reviewing patient and EMS documentation for accuracy; verifying insurance eligibility; monitoring and following up on unpaid, rejected, or denied claims; communicating with insurance carriers to resolve issues; maintaining detailed electronic records; managing billing data within electronic systems; generating reports; ensuring HIPAA compliance; and staying current on EMS billing regulations and company policies.
This role operates fully remotely within Alabama, Florida, Georgia, or South Carolina, requiring adherence to a Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST schedule.
Residency in AL, FL, GA, or SC required. High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 1 year healthcare or EMS billing experience. Knowledge of medical billing processes, insurance guidelines, and claim follow-up. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, spreadsheet applications. Experience with billing software and EHR systems. Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently in remote environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Reliable internet and secure remote workspace.
Preferred: Certification in medical billing or coding (CAC, CPB, CCS, or equivalent). Experience billing Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance. Prior remote healthcare billing experience. Advanced proficiency in billing platforms, reporting tools, data analysis.
