As an Account Specialist, you will manage patient accounts from initial billing through resolution to zero balance. You will assess payments, adjustments, and discrepancies, maintain communication with patients and insurance carriers, and adapt to changing insurance rules to ensure accurate and timely account resolution.
Key responsibilities include:
- Evaluate payments and adjustments on patient accounts for accuracy and address overpayments, underpayments, or non-payments
- Resolve billing issues and respond to insurance carriers and patient inquiries via phone, fax, or mail
- Process daily mail including payments, discrepancies, charge errors, and correspondence
- Manage credit balances following established procedures
- Compile and submit medical records and documentation to support reimbursement, appeals, and pre-payment reviews
- Collaborate with Coding, Medical Records, and Patient Representatives to verify coding, resolve denials, and handle insurance issues and pre-certifications
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or relevant experience (2-3 years) or equivalent combination
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
- Proficiency in computer applications including word processing, email, and 10-key by touch
