AFC Urgent Care Clinics is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Billing Specialist to join the Revenue Cycle team at headquarters in Tigard, Oregon. This entry- to mid-level medical billing position focuses on Workers' Compensation (WCOMP) billing, claims follow-up, payment posting, patient inquiries, and account receivable collections. The role supports day-to-day billing operations ensuring timely claims follow-up and accurate payment posting.
Key responsibilities include managing Workers' Compensation accounts receivable, resolving claim denials and underpayments, direct follow-up with adjusters and payers, researching and appealing denied claims, monitoring claim aging reports, payment posting of insurance and patient payments, patient account support and education, verifying patient insurance eligibility, claim status checks using various payer portals, and general billing administrative tasks. All activities must comply with HIPAA and company policies.
This full-time position is onsite at Tigard, OR headquarters with potential future hybrid work arrangement depending on role development and performance.
Applicants with 2-5 years medical billing experience in urgent care, primary care, or outpatient settings, specifically with Workers' Compensation billing and A/R, are preferred. Experience with payer portals and posting payments in practice management systems is essential. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are required. High school diploma or equivalent needed; certifications are not required but relevant experience is valued.
- 2-5 years of medical billing experience, preferably in urgent care, primary care, or multi-specialty outpatient settings
- Experience with Workers' Compensation billing and accounts receivable
- Proficient in posting payments, ERAs, paper checks in practice management or EHR systems
- Knowledge of insurance eligibility and claim status portals such as Availity, Medicare, Oregon Medicaid, Washington Medicaid
- Understanding of medical billing processes, payer guidelines, claims lifecycle
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with payers, adjusters, patients
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to reliably commute and work onsite at Tigard, OR
- Preferred: experience in multi-state payer environments, familiarity with urgent care billing codes (CPT, ICD-10), ability to conduct patient account audits
