Billing and Accounts Receivable Specialist

The Billing & Patient Accounts Receivable (AR) Specialist manages patient and insurance receivables to ensure accurate, timely reimbursement for medical and cosmetic dermatology services. Responsibilities include verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, reviewing and resolving claim rejections and denials, applying payments and adjustments, monitoring aging reports to follow up on unpaid claims, explaining charges and payment responsibilities to patients, collaborating with front office and clinical staff to resolve billing issues, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA and payer requirements.

This role requires strong knowledge of dermatology-specific billing codes (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS), insurance billing processes including denials and appeals, and experience handling patient balances and insurance follow-up. Excellent communication, customer service skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and professionalism in a fast-paced clinical environment are essential. A high school diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of medical billing and accounts receivable experience are required, preferably with dermatology-specific billing.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 to 4 years of medical billing and accounts receivable experience
  • Experience with dermatology-specific billing preferred
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifiers
  • Solid understanding of insurance billing, explanation of benefits (EOBs), denials, and appeals
  • Experience working patient balances and performing insurance follow-up
  • Familiarity with cosmetic services billing and self-pay workflows
  • Knowledge of Medicare dermatology billing rules
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with general office equipment (fax, copy, scanner)
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems preferred
