The Collections Specialist is a vital member of the MYMB System of Care under the supervision of the Collections Supervisor. Responsibilities include reviewing and verifying medical records, bills, and claims to ensure accuracy before initiating collection efforts; utilizing EMR and EHR systems to access patient information and update account statuses efficiently; applying knowledge of medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG, and medical billing procedures to facilitate accurate claim processing; resolving discrepancies related to medical records, billing codes, or insurance claims professionally; maintaining detailed documentation of collection activities, communications, and account statuses in compliance with healthcare regulations; and collaborating with the billing department to resolve coding issues affecting collections.
Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and professional communication are required. Must be able to work independently and adapt to a fast-changing environment, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and medical collections software. Attention to detail and ability to speak clearly over the phone are essential.
Qualifications include proven experience in medical collections or medical office administration with knowledge of healthcare billing processes, EMR and EHR systems, medical terminology, medical records management, and fundamentals of medical coding including CPT, ICD-9/10, and DRG classifications. Ability to interpret complex medical bills and insurance claims while adhering to HIPAA privacy regulations is required.
