MedStar Health is seeking a Patient Accounts Specialist II to join the Patient Accounting Non-Governmental Follow-up team within Patient Financial Services.
Responsibilities include interpreting, evaluating, and resolving complex administrative and patient account issues, identifying and escalating payer issues, processing daily claim workloads, identifying registration errors, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations. The role involves working on commercial, HMO, MCO, Medicare Advantage, and Workers' Compensation payers for several MedStar Health hospitals in Maryland. The specialist will follow up on accounts with no or partial payments and submit appeals and payment reconsiderations on denials and underpayments.
Candidates must have at least 3 to 4 years of experience in patient accounting, health insurance claim appeals, claims follow-up, denials management, or healthcare revenue cycle, along with CRCS-I certification from AAHAM.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CRCS-I (Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist) certification through AAHAM required
- 3-4 years experience in patient accounting or related healthcare field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficiency in billing and collection processes with multiple payers
- Basic knowledge of UB04 and Explanation of Benefits (EOB)
- Some knowledge of medical terminology and CPT/ICD-10 coding
- Excellent communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Proficient in hospital registration and billing systems, Microsoft Excel, and Word
- Typing speed of 35 WPM
