As a Billing/Collections Specialist, you will be a vital asset in managing medical billing and collections processes efficiently. You will ensure accurate billing, resolve payment discrepancies, and follow up on outstanding accounts using your expertise in medical collection, EMR systems, and medical coding including DRG, CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10.
Responsibilities include:
- Greeting patients and visitors professionally
- Completing and uploading necessary paperwork into patient charts for billing and collection
- Answering and forwarding calls, faxes, and emails and providing basic information
- Assisting with Insurance Verification
- Collecting and posting copay and other patient payments
- Recording transactions and creating deposits
- Contacting insurance carriers as directed to facilitate reimbursement
- Learning and implementing the Athelas EHR and Billing Software
- Following up on claims with the billing software team
- Performing clerical duties such as filing, organizing, photocopying, and faxing
- Keeping up with company policies and changes in insurance policies
Qualifications:
- 3+ years medical billing and collection experience preferred
- Proficiency in medical office operations
- Familiarity with EMR and EHR systems
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and records
- Knowledge of medical coding practices including DRG, CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10
- Excellent communication skills for explaining balances and working with insurance agents
Experience required:
- ICD-10: 2 years
- Medical collection: 2 years
