Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Billing Specialist collaborates with the External Billing Consultant and CFO to maintain clinic patient accounts accurately and promptly. Key responsibilities include overseeing billing activities (electronic and paper), payment posting, and patient account collection. The specialist guides front-line staff on billing processes, manages provider credentialing, reviews provider notes for accurate coding, updates insurance mappings, resolves billing issues causing denials, and handles payments reconciliation.
Additional duties involve processing patient charges through Electronic Practice Management systems, validating insurance information and patient eligibility, addressing data inconsistencies professionally, responding to billing inquiries, performing clerical duties, operating office equipment, and providing bilingual translation services (English and Spanish) as needed.
Minimum qualifications require a High School diploma or GED, computer and 10-key calculator proficiency, and bilingual English-Spanish capability. Preferred qualifications include two years of medical or dental insurance billing experience, familiarity with FQHC billing rules, and pursuing relevant certification.
Physical requirements involve capability for lifting up to 20 lbs, sitting/standing for extended periods, working flexible hours including evenings/weekends, manual dexterity, adequate hearing and vision, and ability to perform movements like stooping and walking.
