Responsibilities include performing dental cleanings, scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup; conducting thorough patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions; taking and developing dental radiographs using digital systems like OpenDental; educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and treatment options; assisting the dentist during procedures with chairside assisting to maintain aseptic technique and infection control standards; documenting all patient interactions accurately in electronic medical records, including treatment notes and medical coding; monitoring patient comfort throughout procedures, especially pediatric dentistry cases; and adhering to HIPAA guidelines to protect patient confidentiality.

Qualifications include valid licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist, proven experience in general or pediatric dentistry, proficiency with dental software such as Open Dental, strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy and infection control protocols, ability to perform vital signs assessment and basic medical record documentation, excellent patient care and communication skills, familiarity with dental assisting procedures, and knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA compliance, and medical coding related to dental services.
