Insurance Claims Specialist

State of Minnesota - Direct Care and Treatment

As an Insurance Claims Specialist with Direct Care and Treatment (DCT), you will be responsible for securing reimbursement for treatment services provided at State facilities. Key duties include confirming insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring timely submission of claims for inpatient and outpatient mental health, chemical dependency, residential, vocational, foster care, primary care, and dental services. You will review, research, and correct discrepancies in patient demographics and insurance coverage using the Practice Management System (PM) to facilitate prompt claim processing and payment. Responsibilities also involve reviewing aged and unpaid claims, analyzing and resolving billing discrepancies by navigating payer-specific policies, and submitting coding reviews as needed.

This position requires at least 50% onsite work at Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, with limited telework options available for eligible candidates residing within 50 miles of the worksite.

The role is full-time, typically during day shift hours Monday through Friday.

Preferred qualifications include experience with inpatient psychiatric, residential, outpatient mental health, Medicare and Medicaid billing, and 2 to 5 years in revenue cycle and medical billing processing.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Minimum one year of experience in insurance claims management within a healthcare setting, including accounting principles and practices, revenue cycle, medical billing, claims submission, insurance coverage analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Alternatively, three years of administrative support experience in insurance claims management in healthcare.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for database and spreadsheet management.
  • Analytical and organizational skills to interpret statutes, policies, contracts, and regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience with inpatient psychiatric, residential, outpatient mental health billing.
  • Experience with Medicare and Medicaid billing.
  • Two to five years of experience in revenue cycle and medical billing.
