The Insurance Verification Representative researches and updates patient insurance information, including commercial and government plans, within various databases to reflect current benefit status. Information is obtained electronically or through direct communication with insurance companies.
Key responsibilities include verifying patient insurance coverage, submitting claims to private and government insurance companies, following up on pending claims, working denials, querying Medicare software, and contacting payers or patients for appeals. The role requires compliance with HIPAA and other federal, state, and company regulations, maintaining accuracy and confidentiality in handling medical records.
Must be open to ongoing feedback and coaching, meet production standards, and perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years medical billing experience preferred
- Experience with government and commercial payers required
- Knowledge of insurance terminology and processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with insurance portals, medical system platforms such as STAR and EPIC
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical/problem-solving skills
- Minimum typing speed of 25 words per minute
Work Environment:
