Billing and Coding Associate

Derick Dermatology (DD) is an award-winning medical practice offering medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology care. The Billing and Coding Associate position is remote and full-time, requiring candidates to live in Illinois.

You will be responsible for entering payments in the EMR, generating patient invoices, accurately coding medical claims, submitting electronic claims to insurance payers daily, insurance verification, assisting patients with insurance questions, and managing patient and insurance aged receivables.

Responsibilities include:

• Collecting, posting, and managing patient account payments
• Preparing and reviewing patient statements
• Importing and balancing EFTs
• Identifying and correcting rejected claims
• Reviewing delinquent accounts and contacting for collections
• Verifying patients’ insurance coverage
• Answering billing and insurance questions
• Processing insurance payments
• Following up on claim acceptance or denial
• Reviewing and appealing unpaid or denied claims
• Evaluating medical record documentation for proper CPT and ICD-10 coding
• Obtaining precertification for specific procedures
• Investigating and reporting insurance fraud

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to navigate multiple computer systems while on calls
• CPB or Medical Billing Certification desired but not required
• CPC or Medical Coding Certification desired but not required

Preferred skills:

• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to multitask
• General understanding of insurance terminology
• Clear communication with patients and staff
