Experienced Medical Collector - Patient AR

The Experienced Medical Collector – Patient AR is responsible for managing patient account balances and ensuring timely collection of patient responsibility. This role focuses on communicating directly with patients to resolve outstanding balances, verify accurate claim adjudication, and provide clear explanations of billing processes. The ideal candidate is confident in patient-facing conversations, detail-oriented, and experienced in healthcare collections and revenue cycle processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and work assigned Patient Responsibility aging reports
• Communicate directly with patients regarding outstanding balances and payment options
• Educate patients on billing details, including claim lifecycle and financial responsibility
• Ensure insurance claims have been properly processed and balances are accurately assigned as patient responsibility
• Answer patient inquiries related to account balances and billing questions
• Post patient payments, adjustments, and account updates accurately
• Maintain detailed documentation of all patient communications
• Collaborate with office staff and leadership to explain billing history when needed
• Sort, scan, and file billing-related correspondence

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in healthcare collections and/or medical billing
• Strong knowledge of patient AR and revenue cycle processes
• General understanding of procedure and diagnosis coding
• Experience with Athena (Athenahealth) medical billing system preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle patient financial discussions professionally
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented

• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in compliance with HIPAA and company policies
• Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English
