The Insurance Verification & Billing Specialist is responsible for insurance verification, billing, and collections to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement for services rendered. Tasks include verifying insurance eligibility, referrals, and authorizations; documenting insurance information; maintaining knowledge of insurance requirements; processing insurance claims and patient payments; managing accounts receivable aging reports; following up on collections and denials; reviewing and appealing denied claims; preparing financial reports; making collection calls; and resolving billing questions. The role supports patients, staff, and payors while maintaining compliance with policies.
- High school graduate or equivalent; associate's or more advanced degree preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in a medical office, hospital, outpatient clinic, or healthcare setting
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Minimum two years of insurance verification experience with billing coding knowledge
- Computer literacy
- Excellent phone and customer service skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Experience working with insurance companies and knowledge of coverage and policies
- Ability to maintain accurate records and process items timely
