Insurance Verification Specialist

HEAD & NECK SURGICAL ASSOCIATE

Verify medical and dental insurances prior to patient appointments. Contact patients regarding any financial information about their appointment.

Responsibilities:

  • Contact insurance companies daily to verify medical and/or dental benefits for new or established patient appointments.
  • Accurately complete a "Patient Insurance Verification Form".
  • Notify patients of financial obligations or amounts due before their appointment.
  • Contact patients if their office visit benefits are not covered and discuss available options.
  • Obtain referrals or authorizations when required by patient insurance.

Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA guidelines. Attend staff meetings. Communicate professionally with insurance companies and patients. Maintain billing records, reports, and files. Examine documents for accuracy and completeness.

Educational requirements: High school diploma; college coursework or degree in billing is a plus.

Experience required: Up to 2 years in a medical or dental office; familiarity with health insurance plans and online portals; strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical requirements include sitting for extended periods, manual dexterity for computer and office equipment use, and viewing computer screens for prolonged periods.

Work environment: Office setting with constant communication. Must be comfortable discussing financial matters. Occasional remote work possible after training.

  • Up to 2 years experience in medical or dental office
  • Understand health insurance plans and online portals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA
  • Manual dexterity for computer and office equipment use
