Cytology Manager

QDx Pathology Services

The Cytology/FISH Manager is responsible for microscopically examining non-gynecologic specimens and gynecologic PAP smears for detection of cancer, precancerous conditions, atypias, and inflammatory conditions in a CLIA-certified, high-complexity molecular testing laboratory.

Key responsibilities include performing and interpreting UroVysion FISH assays using image analysis and fluorescent microscopy, following SOPs and safety procedures, managing Cytology and FISH technologists, conducting quality assurance and quality control tasks, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, reviewing slides for preparation quality, evaluating test results, communicating with the Medical Director, and supporting Molecular Pathology Department as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in chemical, physical, or biological sciences from an accredited college or university
  • ASCP certification
  • Certified/board registered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Cytotechnologist
  • Certified by Category 1 Agency (ASCP, NCA)
  • At least six years’ experience as a cytotechnologist
  • Meets education and experience standards set by CMS, NJSDHSS, and New York State Department of Health
  • Knowledge of laboratory organization, policies, quality control, quality assurance, and safety
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Working conditions involve typical medical laboratory environment with some exposure risks and moderate noise levels.

Salary: From $95,000.00 per year

  • Certification by Category 1 Agency (ASCP, NCA)
  • Minimum six years cytotechnologist experience
  • Compliance with CMS, NJSDHSS, and NY State Dept of Health guidelines
  • Strong computer skills, knowledge of laboratory operations, quality control, and safety procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
