Manager, Health Information Management

The Manager, Health Information Management is responsible for managing, coordinating, and performing day-to-day HIM departmental operations and staff supervision. The HIM Manager will oversee and implement facility-related HIM operational planning/initiatives, budgets, workflow processes, and internal controls.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing workflow; appraising employee performance and administering rewards and discipline; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and actively overseeing and managing production and quality control efforts. Implement and support all Corporate HIM initiatives and activities.

Provide support to HIM Departments at the facility level for department operations, reimbursement opportunities, various program implementations, and HIM-specific system installations.

Serve as the designated Facility Privacy Officer and internal consultant/subject matter expert on health information management issues including HIPAA, guardianship, and confidentiality.

Work with the facility to improve medical staff practice patterns including documentation and transcription requirements.

Attend interdisciplinary meetings for HIM expertise on process workflow design or improvements.

Analyze and prepare statistical reports for Medical Records/Utilization Review Committee and Medical Staff Meetings.

Proactively manage significant issues to eliminate barriers and produce successful outcomes in HIM-related workflow processes.

Complete monthly tracking and trending analyses on release of information, delinquent physician incomplete records, employee productivity, surgical monitoring, and closed chart review.

Manage Facility Health Information Management Department and its operational activities.

Additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of Health Information Management experience
  • Associate's Degree in HIM
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential through AHIMA

Preferred:

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential
