Insurance Specialist

DCH Health System

Responsible for managing and performing efficient and effective Accounts Receivable functions for DCH Regional Medical Center, Northport Medical Center, Fayette Medical Center, DCH Home Health and Home Medical Equipment. Responsible for accurately and timely reviewing, collection of all assigned billed insurance claims. Maintains individual and departmental goals for discharged and final billed accounts/claims for AR Aging, AR Days, Cash Collections, etc.

Daily tasks include reviewing and following-up on claims processing/collection for assigned billed insurance claims using Meditech, Optum, payer websites, and other software programs. Research and work claims in billed and unpaid status. Collaborate with other departments such as Patient Access, Case Management, Medical Records. Maintain professionalism and customer service in all interactions. Recommend improvements to processes.

Adheres to DCH Health System performance, patient, employee satisfaction, and financial standards. Complies with Employee Handbook and DCH Behavioral Standards. Must be reliable, responsible, detail-oriented, and able to maintain confidentiality. Position requires frequent communication, data entry, and physical activities primarily performed on-site.

Physical requirements involve sitting for extended periods, lifting up to 20-35 pounds occasionally, and performing repetitive hand and finger movements for data entry.

This role requires interpersonal skills, ability to analyze information, effective communication, and the ability to work independently or with others.

Requirements & Qualifications

High School education or equivalent required. One year or more experience in healthcare business office preferred. Knowledge of insurance types (governmental, HMO, PPO, Commercial) and federal, state, hospital, and departmental rules for compliant healthcare claims filing and reimbursement preferred. Proficient in PC skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and understand English. Physical ability to perform job duties including lifting and data entry. Must maintain patient confidentiality. Reliable, responsible, detail-oriented, able to meet departmental goals and deadlines.
