As a Medical Billing Specialist, you will ensure accurate billing, regulatory compliance, and timely reimbursement for high-cost transport services. You will support patients with empathy and professionalism, collaborating with teams to maintain operational excellence.
Responsibilities include reviewing and auditing transport documentation, verifying insurance coverage (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial), submitting accurate claims for various transport types, researching billing discrepancies, applying ICD-10 and transport billing codes, processing payments, and maintaining patient records with data integrity.
You will serve as a primary contact for patient billing inquiries, help patients understand insurance coverage and financial responsibilities, assist with hardship waivers, payment plans, appeals, and provide compassionate customer service. You will collaborate with the billing team on goals, cross-train, participate in audits and process improvements, and uphold HIPAA and regulatory compliance.
Minimum 3 years healthcare billing experience including insurance verification and diagnosis coding. Experience with ICD-10 coding. Strong knowledge of medical terminology and billing processes. Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills. Organizational and time management skills. Familiarity with billing software, Microsoft Excel and Word. Understanding of HIPAA and confidentiality. High school diploma or GED required. Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree, billing or coding certifications (CAC, CADS, CPC, CPB, CEDC), experience in complex healthcare or emergency services billing, knowledge of appeals and payer follow-up processes, experience negotiating patient balances.
