Under the direct supervision of the Director of Utilization Management and Referrals, the Referral Clerk processes specialty referral orders by obtaining insurance authorization, attaching clinical documents, and submitting them to specialty offices. This role communicates with patients about referral details and documents actions in the electronic health record, obtains specialist consultation notes, and closes referrals.
The position requires professional, punctual, and cooperative behavior, focusing on high-quality patient care. Essential duties include reviewing referral orders and documents, contacting patients to confirm referrals and appointments, obtaining insurance authorization, submitting documentation to specialists, responding to patient and office inquiries, and completing chart processing tasks as assigned.
