Southwoods Health is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Coding Specialist to assign CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes for assigned patient encounters.
This role supports compliant coding across physician offices, specialty offices, hospitalist rounding, and in-office procedures. The position may be fully remote or fully in-office, but remote employees must live within a commutable distance from Boardman, OH for initial training.
Key responsibilities include chart abstraction, coding surgeries/anesthesia/pain management/radiology services, coordinating physician queries in Meditech, applying CMS and payer-specific guidelines, and maintaining coding accuracy and productivity standards.
- Current medical coding certification: CCS, CCA, CPC, RHIT, COC, ACA, or CIC
- At least 1 year in a healthcare setting, or 10+ years of coding experience in lieu of certification
- Strong knowledge of CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM coding
- Understanding of bundling concepts, CMS guidelines, modifiers, and place of service rules
- Good communication skills
- Working knowledge of Excel
- Good computer skills
- Strong ethical and moral character references
