The Office-Based Wound Care Coder is responsible for reviewing and accurately assigning ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for wound care procedures and office services. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations while supporting appropriate reimbursement and the overall revenue cycle.
The coder works closely with physicians, clinical staff, and billing teams to clarify documentation, resolve coding issues, and support clean claim submission. The position also includes participation in coding audits, maintaining HIPAA compliance, and helping educate providers and staff on documentation improvement.
Requirements & Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification, or equivalent from AAPC/AHIMA
- Minimum of 2 years of coding experience, preferably in wound care or a related specialty
Preferred
- Knowledge of office-based E/M and wound care procedures
- Familiarity with payer-specific wound care coding guidelines
- Experience with EHR and coding software systems
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication skills for interacting with providers and team members
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, with orthopedic focus preferred
