Position Summary
Fully remote opportunity with Orlando Health, supporting multifacility coding operations across the health system. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and efficient coding through chart reviews, problem account resolution, coding education, trend analysis, and collaboration with clinical and revenue cycle teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Review medical records for accuracy of principal and secondary diagnoses, co-morbid conditions, complications, procedure codes, and other abstracted elements.
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 codes using an electronic encoder application.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on coding guidelines and respond to coding-related questions.
- Provide coding education, feedback, and presentations to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with coders, physicians, physician offices, and revenue management teams.
- Identify trends from review findings and recommend corrective action plans for KPI reporting and process improvement.
- Assist with DNFB account reviews and ensure timely code completion and accurate billing.
- Support system testing, reporting, data trending, and troubleshooting coding applications.
- Act as a team leader and preceptor for new coders.
- Perform inpatient, outpatient, and radiation oncology liaison duties as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education and Training
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, or completion of a coding certificate program.
- Thorough knowledge of official coding guidelines per AMA, AHA, and CMS.
- Computer literacy and knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
- Must pass liaison coding skills test with a score of 90% or better.
Certification
One of the following national certifications is required:
- CCS, RHIA, or RHIT through AHIMA
- CPC through AAPC
- COC
Experience
- Seven years of relevant hospital inpatient and/or outpatient coding experience required.
- One year of teaching hospital coding experience preferred.
- For Radiation Oncology Liaison duties, three years of radiation oncology coding experience may substitute for teaching hospital experience.
Additional Skills
- Advanced knowledge of ICD-10, ICD-10-PCS, MS-DRG, APR-DRG, CPT, and NCCI.
- Strong understanding of coding-related quality initiatives and reimbursement impact.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
