The Medical Biller manages the full billing cycle for mental health and primary care services, including charge entry, claim submission, payment posting, and follow-up on unpaid or denied claims. This role also involves verifying insurance coverage, resolving billing discrepancies, communicating with insurance companies and Medicare, maintaining billing records, monitoring accounts receivable, and assisting patients with billing questions in a professional and empathetic manner. This is an on-site position in Anchorage, Alaska.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and familiarity with mental health and primary care services.
- Proficiency with ICD-10 coding and general medical billing practices.
- Knowledge of commercial insurance processes, including eligibility verification, prior authorization, and claims submission.
- Experience working with Medicare billing requirements and regulations.
- Ability to analyze and resolve claim denials, appeals, and underpayments.
- Previous experience in medical billing or healthcare revenue cycle, preferably in a behavioral health or outpatient setting.
- Comfort using electronic health records (EHR) and billing software, with strong data entry accuracy and attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact respectfully with diverse patients and staff.
- Strong organizational skills, time management, and the ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in medical billing and coding is preferred.
