Lake Butler Hospital is a critical access hospital in North Florida providing 24-hour emergency services, inpatient hospitalization, swing bed, rehabilitation, laboratory, and radiology services to Union County and surrounding areas.
The Billing Specialist will process billing claims using billing software or paper claims as needed, follow up on edits and denials, and help ensure claims are coded and billed accurately so the facility receives proper reimbursement.
Key responsibilities include preparing, submitting, and managing medical claims, verifying insurance coverage and eligibility, monitoring claim status, investigating denied or rejected claims, resolving discrepancies, processing refunds, pursuing collections on delinquent accounts, and communicating with patients, providers, and insurance payers while maintaining HIPAA and billing compliance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 4-6 years of experience in medical collections
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize insurance billing activities
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality
- Able to read and understand explanation of benefits for all insurances
- Excellent grammar and communication skills
- Self-starter with a pleasant and professional attitude
Skills and knowledge
- Ability to type 45 WPM
- Experience using a 10-key calculator
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
