MedStar Health is seeking an experienced Patient Accounts Specialist I to join the Patient Accounting team, supporting straight Medicaid claims.
This role focuses on hospital-based claims follow-up, denial resolution, and timely reimbursement. The team works with internal departments to ensure patients with straight Medicaid are billed accurately and within state requirements.
The position also involves interpreting and evaluating appeals, communicating with payers, and maintaining productivity and quality standards.
High school diploma or GED required.
1–2 years of experience in patient accounting, accounts receivable, or a related healthcare field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in accounting, finance, or healthcare administration.
- Working knowledge of at least one payer billing and/or collection process
- Basic knowledge of UB-04 and Explanation of Benefits (EOB)
- Some knowledge of medical terminology and CPT/ICD-10 coding
- Strong communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with hospital registration and/or billing systems, personal computers, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word
