Medical Billing Specialist

Chestnut Health Systems is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join its Revenue Cycle team in support of behavioral health, primary care, and community-based services.

In this role, you will help ensure timely reimbursement by processing insurance claims, resolving billing issues, following up on outstanding accounts, and maintaining accurate financial records. The position plays an important part in keeping the financial side of healthcare running smoothly and supporting patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process insurance claims and billing activities accurately and in a timely manner
  • Review and submit claims while identifying and resolving billing issues
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances
  • Research claim denials and work with insurance companies to resolve payment issues
  • Prepare documentation for appeals and reimbursement requests
  • Maintain accurate financial and billing records in EMR and billing systems
  • Communicate with internal departments and external payers to ensure timely claim resolution
  • Assist with departmental reporting, audits, and quality improvement activities
  • Participate in team meetings and support department initiatives
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and financial information
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience in medical billing, healthcare revenue cycle, insurance claims processing, accounts receivable, or medical office operations preferred
  • Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) and computerized billing systems preferred

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze billing information and resolve problems independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members
  • Ability to successfully complete required background checks
