This role is responsible for entering and billing patient office charges, surgery charges, facility charges, payments, and adjustments. The position works closely with the business office to maintain a thorough understanding of insurance plans, billing requirements, and carrier participation. The Medical Biller also performs cashiering duties, including preparing bank deposits, printing merchant services reports, processing credit card transactions, and reconciling payment postings with bank deposits.
The role is based in a typical medical office environment with regular interruptions and significant distractions. It is primarily sedentary and requires frequent communication with patients, doctors, coworkers, and others.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a data entry role, such as insurance payment posting, preferably in a medical environment
- Medical terminology preferred
- Proven speed and accuracy in data entry and 10-key procedures
- Strong skills in quality, attention to detail, planning and organizing, communication, teamwork, and confidentiality
Key Responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of ANSI reason and remark codes
- Ability to read and interpret explanation of benefits (EOBs)
- Understanding of insurance denials and patient account posting
- Proficiency with contractual and sequestration adjustments
- Knowledge of CPT codes, modifiers, and charge entry
- Experience posting charges and receipts accurately and timely
- Ability to process CMS-1500 and UB-04 billing forms
