The Clinical Trials Billing Specialist supports accurate billing for patients enrolled in clinical trials, ensuring claims are compliant with federal regulations and CMS guidelines. This role serves as the second-tier reviewer in a two-step billing process, confirming charges are routed to the correct funding source based on the linked clinical trial protocol in Epic and OnCore.
The position is part of the Hospital Billing and Collections team within Patient Financial Services. It focuses on billing compliance, denial prevention, workflow analysis, reporting, and cross-functional coordination to support research operations and revenue cycle integrity.
Hybrid work is preferred, with a remote option available. Core hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and Tuesdays are onsite in Philadelphia if within commuting distance.
High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
At least 3 years of work experience in healthcare billing, collections, or a related role.
At least 1 year of coding experience preferred.
Knowledge of clinical trial billing review processes. Ability to interpret clinical trial protocols in Epic and OnCore. Experience with clinical trial claim edits and identifiers. Ability to identify and resolve research-related billing denials. Strong attention to detail and regulatory compliance knowledge. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred certifications include CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-A upon hire.
Required skills include strong math aptitude, organizational ability, clear decision-making, leadership, communication, confidentiality, Excel proficiency, and the ability to work overtime as needed.
