Billing Representative

Holy Name Medical Center

Responsible for accurately preparing, submitting, and following up on claims to ensure timely and correct reimbursement while complying with regulatory and payer requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review patient accounts for accuracy and completeness of charge, insurance, UB, and DRG information
  • Verify billing data, charges, and required claim information
  • Submit claims via the appropriate mode of submission
  • Maintain compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer regulations
  • Document billing actions and updates in the billing system
  • Monitor outstanding claims within account assignments and follow up as needed
  • Resolve claim rejections and denials through follow-up and corrections
  • Respond to correspondence and phone inquiries from patients, insurance companies, Medicare, and other parties regarding claims, charges, or billing discrepancies
  • Calculate charge prorations, payer discounts, allowances, and adjustments to be posted to accounts
  • Communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and internal/external departments
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
  • Perform related duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Trade/vocational school or accredited college/trade school for medical billing and coding preferred

Experience

  • Less than 1 year of related experience required
  • Entry-level position; previous experience in a related role is preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of medical billing and insurance processes is a plus
  • Basic computer and data entry skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and be trained
  • Strong English reading, writing, and speaking skills; bilingual abilities are a plus
  • Strong math skills and familiarity with medical terminology
