Customer Service Billing Specialist I

This role serves as the primary onshore point of contact for patient and customer inquiries, with a focus on resolving issues quickly, supporting claim submission, and maintaining high service standards. The position works closely with internal and offshore teams to ensure continuity of service and accurate billing operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to patient, customer, insurance, and internal team inquiries with professionalism and empathy
  • Managing a high daily call volume and meeting service-level expectations
  • Escalating complex issues, payer discrepancies, denial trends, and systemic concerns when needed
  • Preparing, reviewing, submitting, and resubmitting DME and DMEPOS claims for accuracy and completeness
  • Verifying eligibility, benefits, payor selection, and required authorizations
  • Protecting PHI and following HIPAA, SOPs, and internal workflows
  • Coordinating with onshore and offshore teams for documentation, call transfers, and follow-up
  • Supporting daily productivity, quality, and scorecard goals
  • Assisting with additional billing and service functions as operational needs require
Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 1 year of recent experience in medical billing required
  • DMEPOS experience preferred
  • Experience with a variety of payor groups preferred
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding and insurance billing rules
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and professional
  • Strong organization, adaptability, and attention to detail
  • Computer proficiency with web browsing, practice management systems, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality
  • Applicable professional certification such as Medical Reimbursement Specialist or Billing and Coding preferred
