Under the direction of the Billing Manager, the Patient Account Biller provides administrative and clerical support to the Billing Team. Responsibilities include charge entry, payment entry, account reconciliation, claims follow-up, and denial management in accordance with accepted billing and collection practices.
The role is part of the Health Services department at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, a nonprofit healthcare organization serving LGBTQ patients through medical and mental health services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Charge entry, coding, and cash reconciliation
- Payment entry, including processing refunds by paper and/or electronically
- Generating, reviewing, and transmitting patient statements and notices
- Monitoring patient accounts for appropriate insurance assignments
- Claim follow-up and denial management
- Responding to patient/client billing questions and documenting outcomes in AllScriptsPM
- Attending required Center, Health Services, and Health Information Services meetings
- Performing other duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications
- Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community
- Familiarity with issues relevant to LGBTQ people
- Working knowledge of current CPT and ICD-10 codes
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of reimbursement and denial codes
- Bilingual skills preferred; English/Spanish fluency is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
- Computer skills, including working knowledge of Excel
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
