Patient Accounts Representative

Join Bergen New Bridge Medical Center as a Patient Accounts Representative in Patient Financial Services.

This role supports hospital billing operations by reviewing and correcting claims, monitoring aged trial balances, following up on outstanding receivables, and coordinating with internal departments and payors to resolve billing issues.

Key duties include:

  • Edit failed claims in the claims administration system and resubmit corrected claims.
  • Review delinquent error reports and unbilled aged trial balances.
  • Communicate with Patient Access, Ancillary Departments, and Medical Records on claim edits.
  • Monitor reports for claim combinations, sequential billing, interim billing, and late charges.
  • Review benefits and validate eligibility for applicable billing periods.
  • Track clearinghouse and payor responses, adjust claims, and resubmit as needed.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims and payment variances.
  • Prepare technical appeals and refer accounts for clinical appeal when appropriate.
  • Monitor hardcopy correspondence and medical record documentation requests.
  • Support departmental policies, quality standards, safety, and customer service expectations.
Requirements & Qualifications

Position qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in medical billing procedures.
  • Familiarity with third-party insurer regulations required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Typing speed of 25 WPM tested.
  • Must pass alphanumeric skills test.
  • Intermediate computer skills required, including Excel and Word.
  • Computerized billing knowledge essential.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English as required by the position.
