The Medical Billing Analyst is an intermediate billing role within the Hospital or Physicians Billing Offices for Albany Med Health System. The position focuses on follow-up for accounts that have already been billed but require rebilling, payer follow-up when responses are delayed beyond regulatory guidelines, and resolution of denials that require immediate action or appeal.
The role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to use payer websites to locate policies and claim information. It also requires consistent communication with peers, trainers, leadership, coding teams, and other internal departments to resolve billing edits and denials.
Key responsibilities
- Resolve complex billing edits that require a deeper understanding of claim history and rebilling requirements.
- Follow up on no-response work queues and communicate with payers by phone, email, or web portals.
- Respond to denials by rebilling claims, updating information, or submitting appeals with supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external departments to resolve edits and denials.
- Identify payer trends affecting claim edits and denials and communicate those trends to leadership.
- Document all account actions clearly and thoroughly.
- Navigate payer websites to obtain policies, claim adjudication details, and supporting information.
- Use Epic, OnBase, and related systems proficiently.
- Work independently under deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Meet daily and weekly productivity and quality standards.
- Support revenue cycle management efforts to reduce aging accounts receivable.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree preferred
- Prior office experience preferred
- Medical billing or claims knowledge preferred
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with peers and leadership
- Ability to learn and follow instructions quickly
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-volume environment
- Microsoft Office and web-based system knowledge
- CCS, CIC, or COC certification preferred upon hire
