Position Summary
The Billing Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of medical billing for home health services. This role supports accurate claim submission, timely reimbursement, denial follow-up, and compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit electronic and paper claims for home health services.
- Process billing for Medicare, Texas Medicaid, and commercial insurers.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility.
- Resolve claim rejections, denials, and underpayments.
- Follow up on outstanding accounts receivable and support timely collections.
- Maintain accurate billing records and documentation.
- Work closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure billing accuracy.
- Stay current on federal and Texas state regulations related to home health billing.
- Generate billing reports and assist with audits as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
- 1–3 years of medical billing experience, preferably in home health care.
- Strong knowledge of Medicare and Texas Medicaid billing rules.
- Familiarity with OASIS, EVV (Electronic Visit Verification), and home health software systems preferred.
- Experience with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Proficiency with billing software, AXXESS EMR, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) or similar certification.
- Experience working in a Texas-based home health agency.
- Knowledge of PDGM (Patient-Driven Groupings Model).
