Johns Hopkins Intrastaff, the internal staffing agency for Johns Hopkins Health System and partner hospitals, is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to support professional fee coding for physician-based encounters.
The role is fully remote and includes providing coding support for multiple Johns Hopkins locations. The position requires residence in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, Washington, D.C., or Florida.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in HIM, Medical Coding, or a related field; or a high school diploma/GED plus 2 years of medical coding experience in lieu of the degree
- CPC, CCA, or CCS-P certification required
- Demonstrated knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and professional billing coding guidelines
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer policies, coding compliance standards, and regulatory requirements
- Experience using coding and revenue cycle systems to review work queues, resolve coding edits, and support claim submission
Core responsibilities
- Assign diagnosis and procedure codes for professional billing encounters based on documentation and coding guidelines
- Review and code moderately complex cases involving multiple diagnoses and comorbid conditions
- Resolve routine and moderately complex coding discrepancies independently
- Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to improve documentation quality and completeness
- Participate in coding quality assurance and maintain productivity and quality standards
