The Medical Billing Specialist will support a Revenue Cycle Management team by reviewing patient accounts, resolving billing inquiries, and managing patient collections activities. This role works directly with patients to address outstanding balances while maintaining quality, accuracy, confidentiality, and strong customer service standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Review patient accounts, statements, balances, and billing records for accuracy
- Handle inbound and outbound calls regarding billing inquiries and patient balances
- Follow up on outstanding accounts and support patient collections activities
- Interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Remittance Advice documentation
- Reconcile patient accounts and maintain accurate billing information
- Process adjustments, refunds, credit balance reviews, and payment transactions
- Maintain accurate account documentation and collection activity records
- Assist with monthly account reconciliation and reporting activities
- Monitor and process patient correspondence and hardship-related requests
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve account issues efficiently
- Meet productivity, quality, and customer service standards
Requirements & Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in medical billing, patient collections, or healthcare revenue cycle operations
- Strong knowledge of medical insurance, billing procedures, and patient account management
- Ability to interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and insurance documentation
- Experience working in a billing or customer service call queue environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to manage confidential information and comply with HIPAA requirements
Preferred qualifications include:
- Postsecondary education or medical billing certification
- Experience in healthcare revenue cycle management environments
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing processes
- Experience with customer relationship management systems
- Familiarity with performance metrics and service level goals
