Professional Coding and Documentation Improvement Specialist

Capital Health (US)

Facilitates compliant physician coding and documentation for accurate assignment of diagnosis, Evaluation and Management (E&M), and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes.

Performs ongoing monitoring of medical record documentation content to ensure industry guidelines, laws, and regulations are met.

Provides provider feedback and education on proper documentation to support code level selections.

Identifies recurring coding and documentation improvement opportunities and reports them to leadership.

Supports proactive documentation improvement initiatives within Capital Health Medical Group.

Remote work is available, but only for candidates located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Alabama.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's degree in health information management preferred

Certifications

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required, or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P) required
  • Physician coding and training certification

Experience

  • 2 years of experience in a professional coding role required
  • Monitoring and education experience preferred
  • Experience with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of physician coding and reimbursement guidelines
  • Knowledge of pathophysiology and disease processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Research and analysis skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work with multiple EMR systems
  • Ability to develop and deliver coding education to individual providers and provider groups
