Case Acquisition Specialist

This role supports the Cancer Institute by identifying reportable and non-reportable cancer registry cases, maintaining accurate coding and documentation, and helping determine case classification for the abstracting team. The position requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of oncology-related medical records, and the ability to work independently while meeting registry deadlines.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, business hours with some flexibility.

Location: 100% remote.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of ACOS/COC and state registry data collection requirements
  • Ability to interpret operative, pathology, radiology, lab, and autopsy reports
  • Familiarity with SEER solid tumor and hematopoietic/lymphoid coding rules, SEERRX, STORE, and FCDS manuals
  • Understanding of disease processes, diagnostic methods, and oncology care pathways
  • Familiarity with abstracting processes, principles, and data standards
  • Knowledge of cancer types, disease progression, prognoses, and standards of care
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications
  • Effective communication skills with leadership and registry team members
  • Experience using electronic medical records, cancer registry databases, word processing software, and Windows-based systems
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • 2+ years of healthcare or relevant experience preferred
  • Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification preferred
