Codes outpatient medical records using the most accurate and appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes in accordance with regulatory coding guidelines, industry best practices, and HIA policies and procedures. Abstracts required demographic and clinical data elements. The coder is expected to meet specified productivity and accuracy standards.
Responsibilities
- Code all requested medical records using the most accurate and appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT code assignments in accordance with coding guidelines.
- Abstract, code, and assign necessary demographic and clinical data elements.
- Maintain quality and productivity according to client requirements.
- Complete all required coding education within established deadlines.
- Continue improving coding skills by actively participating in all education sessions.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma; AAPC credentials preferred, CPC preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of outpatient coding experience in an ambulatory surgery setting.
- Proficient in ICD-10-CM/PCS, E/M leveling, and CPT coding.
- Computer proficiency, including the ability to research coding questions and use internal educational resources.
- High-speed internet via cable required; no satellite or wireless cell-based internet.
- Independent, focused individual able to work remotely.
